Trump is calling military officers “some of the dumbest people” he’s ever met, and his supporters are loving it.
Trump insulted General Mark Milley at a campaign event in Iowa on Monday, telling a story about disagreeing with the former head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
“I don’t want to tell you what I had to go through with these people—some of the dumbest I’ve ever met in my life,” Trump remarked, to thunderous applause from the audience.
Trump’s disparagement of Milley has become a recurring theme since The Atlantic published a feature in which Milley detailed how he “protected the Constitution from Donald Trump.”
In September, Trump accused Milley of treason for conversing with Chinese officials about the US election process and suggested he should be hanged. “This is an act so egregious that, in times gone by, the punishment would have been death,” Trump said in a statement.
Judge Tanya Chutkan imposed a second gag order on Trump on Monday, citing Trump’s insane rant about Milley as part of the cause.
This isn’t the first time Trump has made disparaging remarks about military personnel. Former White House aide John Kelly stated that Trump had referred to handicapped veterans as “suckers” and “losers.”
