Donald Trump made a controversial promise during a recent town hall with Fox News host Sean Hannity, promising America that he would never abuse power as retribution against anyone. Trump claimed that he would only be a “dictator” on “day one” of being in the White House if he wins the 2024 election. However, Hannity pointed out that this is not retribution. Trump then added that he wants to close the border and drill, drilling, drilling. After that, he is not a dictator.
Hannity responded that Trump seems to be going back to his policies when he was president. This is not the first time Trump has been compared to a ruler who has total power over a country. Chris Christie, who used to be friends with Trump and is also running for president, pointed out the businessman’s frightening behavior. Christie said that Trump acts like someone who doesn’t care about our democracy and wants to be a dictator. In a different interview, Christie was asked whether it would be a “death sentence” in the primary to call out Trump. Christie replied that it would be a “death sentence” to let Trump be their nominee.
If Trump is the nominee, they will not only lose the presidency again but also both houses of Congress and races up and down the ticket. Christie added that if they are unwilling to take him on now, they will have to take him on with any credibility.
