Trump told a crowd in Montgomery, Ala in early August following his third indictment, stating that he needs one more indictment to close out the election. Critics argue that Democrats are pursuing politically motivated criminal indictments to cause election interference as Trump is the 2024 Republican Party frontrunner. Trump denied taking a plea deal in Georgia, stating that it is called election interference.
