Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has called for a ban on Kamala Harris in response to the vice president’s call for assault weapons to be banned. Harris, who was asked to lead the first-ever federal Office of Gun Violence Prevention last month, reiterated her call for Congress to pass an assault weapons ban. Greene, a Georgia Republican who opposes gun control, took issue with Harris’ words, calling for a ban on communist politicians like her in America and expressing shame on him for trying to destroy Americans’ right to defend themselves while their policies have caused skyrocketing crime and invasion by criminals, gangs, and terrorists.
More than 500 people have been killed in mass shootings so far in 2023, according to the Gun Violence Archive. Two “assault-type” guns and a pistol, according to police, were in the shooter’s arsenal. Harris spoke about the difficulty of passing an assault weapons ban at an event at the College of Southern Nevada and shared a clip of her remarks on her official X account on Monday. Last month, the White House announced the establishment of the Harris-led Office of Gun Violence Prevention. One of its directives is to ensure a federal gun safety law passed last year is fully implemented.
The law toughened background checks for buyers under 21, sought to keep firearms from domestic violence offenders, and aimed to help states put in place red flag laws that make it easier to take weapons away from people judged to be dangerous. Biden called for the full implementation of the most significant gun safety law in nearly 30 years and the passing of the assault weapons ban.
